Every wood we use is solid or a thick veneer over a solid frame, and each ages its own way.
Walnut
Dark, straight grain that warms and lightens a little in daylight. It suits sideboards and chair frames. Shop walnut.
Teak
Golden and naturally oily, so it shrugs off spills. Left alone in the sun it turns a soft silver-brown. Shop teak.
Oak
Pale with an open grain you can feel. It deepens to honey over the years. Shop oak.
Looking after all three
Dust with a dry cloth, wipe spills at once and keep them away from heaters. Read Caring for Solid Wood for the rest.
